Spring Reflections

Easter BunnyAt the start of fall, I started what I hoped to be a new monthly post on reflections. It was meant to motivate me to write more about me. Friends, I failed! I haven’t written one single reflections post since September. My excuse is Baby A and adjusting (and enjoying) to staying at/working from home, and I’m sticking with it. But that doesn’t make me proud. In fact, I feel terribly guilty that I’ve not had the inspiration or passion to write lately. But the reality is I’ve been busy living life since all these huge changes took place. Life has been good! But it’s time to reignite the fire for this beautiful space of mine that I have created on the web.

So without further adieu, seven months later, here are my latest reflections. Maybe these will become more seasonal than monthly in occurrence, but I hope (again!) that they will be regular. They are a window to my life, and I’m happy to share them with you. And if I haven’t shared in a while, please give me a little nudge! How Plant-Based Milks Help Save Water

Almond milk is a staple in our house; you may remember me raving about our fav here. Apparently, more than 26.7 percent of American households consume plant-based beverages! Hooray!

Do you know why that’s so cool (besides the fact that it tastes delicious, and caused no cow to have her baby taken from her while she was forced to be milked multiple times per day; yes, it’s true)? Because it helps to conserve water, an incredibly precious resource! There is no better time to talk about conserving water than Earth Month. Continue reading

6 Super Spring Foods to Detox

Reblogged from Hungry for Change.

I love the Spring season. Fresh produce is making its return and it won’t be long before you can get delicious food straight out of the garden or fresh from a farmers’ market. Depending on your location and climate, there are great garden and farm foods available as soon as the frost lifts, many of which give a boost to your body after a long sluggish winter.

When it comes to cleansing your body of harmful toxins, food really is the best medicine. Many of your favorite foods also cleanse the liver, kidneys, skin, intestines and other detoxification systems. Add more of these nutritious and delicious Springtime foods to your diet to help ward off the harmful effects of bad food choices, pollution, food additives, second-hand smoke, among other toxins. Here are my top six picks for seasonal spring detox foods. Continue reading

Review: Fill, Squeeze, Eat, Repeat with EZ Squeezes

EZsqeeze_SideOpenBaby A is all about solid foods these days. By solids, I mean pureed of course. She loves squash, pears, apples, peaches, peas, carrots, kale, you name it! I started looking at the squeezable pouches of food in the baby aisle and thought, “what a brilliant invention!” That’s definitely one of the best new ideas to come out since K-Bear was a baby. But as someone who makes all of her own baby food, I didn’t like not knowing what exactly was in those pouches, not to mention the waste.

Enter EZ Squeezes. These refillable, reusable squeeze pouches are the perfect solution! BPA and Phthalate free, they are bound to make moms and babies everywhere smile. You control the food that goes in there, confirming to your family’s healthy diet. Plus, one three-pack saves 90+ pouches from the landfill. Yeah! Continue reading

Enjoying a Colorado Winter Staycation

WinterPark14_01Sometimes, just sometimes, I forget where I live. I don’t mean I draw a blank when writing my return address. I mean, I forget that when it comes to vacation, where I live – Colorado – is in fact a destination for many adventure seekers. I think the same goes for others; whether it be the lights of NYC or the beaches of San Diego, recognizing the beauty of our backyard for a Staycation is sometimes overlooked.

Come February or March of every year, we usually jet off to a warm beach somewhere. This year, Baby A threatened to steal much of the relaxation that comes with lounging for hours on the sand with a book in hand. Shocker! Combine that with adjusting to a reduced income since leaving the out-of-the-house working world, and we choose our backyard for a 5-day break. Continue reading
